Hi! I’m Emilie, the voice behind this road trip and adventure travel website.
I usually travel with my husband and our boys, but I’ll sometimes travel solo. We’re a Canadian-American family whose mission is to live a life rich in experiences rather than material possessions through travel and outdoor adventures.
You’ve probably heard this saying a few things when you started talking about having kids “Travel now because you won’t be able when you have kids…” Or any derivations.
Well… We are here to prove to all families that you can still travel when you have kids and be adventurous.
In fact, since having kids, we’ve been so much more active and adventurous in the outdoors. We also made some epic trips, such as:
- visiting National Parks across the USA,
- road-tripping across Canada and Western USA.
- converting a passenger van into a small family campervan.
From epic national parks to little Prairie towns to hiking and everything in between, we wanted to give you a local perspective of the area.

Who is behind Love Life Abroad: A bit more about us.
Nathan and I met more than 10 years ago in Italy. We ended up staying at the same hostel on Ischia Island, traveled around together throughout Italy and kept in touch. Later that same year, I visited him in California (We had one of our first dates in beautiful Lake Tahoe).

Why this blog?
Our mission is to give concrete advice to families who love to travel and the outdoors and to break the idea that adventures stop when you have children.
We specialize in road trips and outdoor adventures with kids. We provide tips, detailed itineraries, destination guides and hope to inspire YOU to try new family adventures.
Love Life Abroad: How It All Started
It all started with a book.
In the summer 2019, I (Emilie) sat down and started to read the book “Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One”. As cliché as it may sound, this book resonated with Nathan and with me. We had it all, we had our American dream, but a little something was missing.
We were missing outdoor adventures, travel and family time.
Some may say we are intense a little, but we did what we thought was best for our family: we sold it all to travel to the world. But then… covid happened. We changed our plans and started a long road trip across Canada and Western USA.
Our full-time travelling adventure wasn’t all instagramy… far from it. Whining, crisis, doubts, fights. We experienced it all. But we would do it again in a heartbeat because it brought us closer as a family, we visited beautiful places, we learned so much.
Here we are 3 years later, trying to hike every weekend, planning road trips (far & near), and hoping to inspire other families to do the same.
