Yes! But a little bit of comfort and convenience never hurt or hindered anyone.
So, what amenities are there exactly? Well, 75% of hosts provide water, electricity, WiFi, a firepit, pull-through parking, and even a dump station. As you’d guess, all these are dependent on what the host is willing to offer and the facilities available.
How Long Can You Stay?
Generally, guests can stay for 1-3 days at the host’s property, but this is up to the host. In some instances, the hosts are very welcoming and would be happy to let you stay for a week if you want. In other cases, the hosts live in rural areas where 2 to 3 nights would be fine.
In our case, we were fortunate to be accommodated by a friendly host, Jerry. He was a complete gentleman and made us feel more than welcome. He suggested we stay for a week, so we decided to stay for one extra day.

The great thing about Boondockers Welcome is that you have access to over three thousand locations across the continent. Hundreds of people join each day to become hosts. So, if you ever decide to embark on a road trip outside of the country, your Boondockers membership would come in handy.
However, not all of these properties are homes. Some are farms, ranches, and even undeveloped lands.
For instance, our host Jerry’s property is a farm. He uses the host site to raise horses for trail riding and the like.
Are There Hidden Costs?
That’s a good question!
Well, there is no mandatory fee after your membership is activated. But Boondockers Welcome urges guests to show their appreciation to their hosts, notably when they provide hookups. This doesn’t have to be too much, but it can be as simple as a “Thank You” note.
Although some hosts will state it in their profile if they want donations for hookups, regardless, we believe it is courteous to leave a small donation if you appreciate your host’s hospitality.
How Much is Boondockers Welcome Subscription?
Boondockers Welcome is affordable. It’s only $50 per year. Yes! You pay only $50 once a year, and you get to enjoy RV camping with families across different locations.
If you decide to become a host, you get a 50% discount which means you just pay $25 a year.

You can become a host if you control a legally permitted property to park RVs overnight.
Even if you don’t have enough space in your driveway for every size of RV, you can still sign up as long as you have a B-Class campervan (for rentals, click here). Everyone is welcome besides North American hosts, no matter where they live.
The campground doesn’t need to have RV hookups – that is why they are called “Boondockers Welcome” – however, if you provide hookups for guests, that would be great.

Code of Conduct
While each Host has its page detailing where to park and what they expect from you, Harvest Host has a Code of Conduct that you must follow.
It is mandatory to have a self-contained RV with a water tank, an indoor kitchen, and a toilet. You cannot cook outside or use a tent. You may also have to show proof of liability insurance, so make sure you have it handy.
Unless otherwise stated, it is polite to call a host at least 24 hours in advance to ensure they can accommodate you. Make sure to let them know what size RV you have! Although it is courteous to arrive during business hours, you should check with the host if there are any special instructions to arrive late.
Unless the Host specifically invites you to stay longer, overnight stays are limited to one night only.
Upon arriving at your location, introduce yourself and show your membership card. Ensure you park only in approved areas and double-check if you can use a generator (if needed). Make sure you use generators sparingly to respect the neighbors.
Be sure to supervise your children or pets at all times if you’re traveling with them. It is also crucial that you clean after them.
And finally, it is standard to purchase something to express your gratitude for the free night’s stay. You don’t have to go overboard. It could be a bottle of wine, paying for a round of golf, or any other token of appreciation. It also doesn’t hurt to thank your host in person before leaving.

The good news is more than 90% of Harvest Hosts allow pets, but they must be on a leash in your vehicle. We still recommend that you check before arriving.
Pets may also only be permitted in designated parking lots rather than on the grounds. It’s essential to respect their rules while on their property as a guest.
Finally, always clean up after your pet. You may encounter farm animals that may not react well to your pet. It makes sense to check with the Host about what is appropriate or not for your pet.
